- We do not have a course sequence per say. The art department meets students where they are on their artistic journey.
-
We believe in a fail-forward mentality and building students' artistic skills so that they can begin to appreciate how to express themselves through a variety of art mediums. Some classes are not offered in 9th grade due to student development and the need to introduce students to the basics of art, hand tool development, and awareness.
- Skills taught - The SLCSE Art Department builds hands-on art skills through art projects. Skills are continually developed as projects develop in complexity and variety.
- Rigor- Art is a multidisciplinary subject and requires a great deal of synthesis of the elements and principles of art as well as incorporating skills in one or multiple art mediums. Art is as rigorous as a student wants to make it as they develop their own personal aesthetic.
- Accessibility- The SLCSE Art Department prides itself on meeting students where their skills are presently. This makes room for kids who have little art experience and for allowing students who are very skilled in art and providing them the freedom to develop their own personal artistic vision.
- Differentiation- We differentiate content based on individual students' skill level and help them achieve success through instruction and the use of tools to help them create art that matches their vision.
- We do not offer an honors option
